What is sold, and by whom

The application is free on the user’s device. The only paid product is a subscription to the managed service (encrypted sync, encrypted backups, remote locum cover, recovery, support), sold to self-employed nurses for their professional practice.

  • Switzerland: sold directly by the publisher, paid by QR invoice (bank transfer). Nothing is invoiced before the current terms are accepted and the subscription is confirmed.
  • Outside Switzerland: since 9 October 2026, in the countries that the pricing page states as open, the subscription to the managed service is sold by our reseller Paddle.com, Merchant of Record, which processes the order, collects the payment, invoices the applicable tax and issues the receipt.

Prices: pricing page. Refunds: refund policy.

Nature of the service

Carnet is a tool to help self-employed nurses keep the nursing record, plan their rounds and handle billing.

Carnet is not a medical device and is not intended for medical purposes (art. 16 para. 5 of the Swiss Medical Devices Ordinance, MedDO, SR 812.213). It is not placed on the market as a medical device in any of its functions, and is intended for none of the medical purposes of art. 3 para. 1 let. c MedDO: no diagnosis, prevention, monitoring, prediction, prognosis, treatment or alleviation of a disease, injury or disability, nor investigation of an anatomical structure or function or of a physiological process or state. It gives no medical advice. It never replaces the clinical judgement of the professional. Whether a product is a medical device is an objective question: it is ultimately decided by Swissmedic and, where applicable, by the courts, not by agreement between the parties.

Hosting

The website and the sync service are hosted in Switzerland, by Infomaniak (Geneva), which states that it operates ISO 27001-certified data centres. Care data are encrypted end to end on the user’s device: neither the host nor the publisher has access to any readable data.

Intellectual property

The code of Carnet is published under the free GNU Affero General Public License v3 (AGPLv3) — it is open and auditable. The logo and visual identity are works protected by copyright, owned by David Lambrecht; they are not covered by the AGPLv3. The name “Carnet” is used as a distinctive sign of the product: no trademark is registered and the publisher claims no trademark rights.

Liability

The use of Carnet is governed by the service agreement (English courtesy translation; the French original is binding) and the privacy policy. The healthcare professional remains responsible for their clinical decisions and for the legal retention of their records: the publisher provides no long-term retention and cannot do so, since he cannot read the data.

Governing law

This website and the service are governed by Swiss law. Place of jurisdiction: Sierre (Valais). In case of discrepancy, the French version of this notice prevails.
